Desires

  • Pieces pertaining to the issue theme

  • A focus on sensuality and erotica*

  • Slow-burns

  • Inclusivity and diversity

  • Queer goodness!

  • Varied relationship/sexuality types - i.e., one-night stands, polyamory, friends-to-lovers, first queer experiences, axesual romance, etc.  Have fun with it!

  • Unique takes/perspectives

  • Underutilized/unloved and original monsters

  • Genres outside of the norm that bring a fun new style to the monsterlover world!

Turn Offs

  • AI generated pieces of any kind

  • Abusive, non-consensual storylines (including SA, violence, and coercion)

  • Stories with underage characters (duh)

  • Hate speech/derogatory language or themes including, but not limited to: antisemitism, racism, bullying, LGBTQ+-phobic (i.e., homophobia, panphobia, etc.), agism, sexism.

  • Sex heavy stories (unless it pertains to the theme)*

*In the case of erotica and sex heavy pieces as mentioned above: people often forget that erotica and straight p0rn0graphy are not mutually exclusive.  While (obviously) we want that good spice, we don't want stories that are literally just 2,000 words of monsterfucking.  We're a monsterLOVER zine.  We want our lit mag to be sensual, fun, and approachable, with pieces that invoke a wider emotional range than simple arousal.  We want to create a safe space for people to dip their feet into the genre while celebrating the diversity that comes with a rage of relationships types.

THAT BEING SAID:

Obviously, we want (and dearly love) monsterfucking content and we will have issues that are heavily centered around getting nasty so stay tuned!  Just wait until the Alien themed issue rolls around, that one's gonna get messy.

When it comes to prose outside of the monsterfucker-centered issues, try to keep the explicit content limited to no more than 30% of your story.  If you feel that your story would be better with a sex-heavy narrative, please let us know when you submit and we'll chat about it!  It may still be a good fit!  As for poetry, use your discretion.  For art and comics, remember that the build-up and soft touches can be an immensely powerful storytelling option.  If you're submitting a single illustration, feel free to be explicit but be tasteful about it (for great examples, check out this post from comic artist Chris Shehan's NSFW Twitter account - @Art_of_Lovelies).
